Copardom backs measure by Executive

The president of the Management Confederation of the Dominican Republic (Copardom), Jaime Gonzalez, expressed the support of this institution to the decision by the Executive Power to veto the law which declared Loma Miranda a National Park.

Gonzalez said that the letter by President Danilo Medina to the Congress deserves both the respect of all the citizens, because of his well thought out arguments, as well as the support of all those that want and defend Democratic institutionalism in the country.

The President of Copardom made it clear that with his decision the President does not give a green light to the mining exploitation of Loma Miranda, nor does he issue a prohibition based on slanted criteria, while the nation does not have a defined mining policy and does not have a study that is methodologically impartial, valid and rigorous which establishes the requirements to designate a national Park in a certain area.

"There is no reason for us to hurry. As a Nation we should and we have to know what we will do with our mining resources and our protected areas, before taking decisions without sufficient scientific backing," declared Gonzalez.
