Plane disappears from radar; authorities do not how
LAS AMERICAS AIRPORT. Technicians from the Airworthiness Department of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (ID AC) are investigating the whereabouts of the aircraft N 600 AE, a Hawker 125, which took off from the Las Americas International Airport at 10:40 P. M. Last Wednesday, heading for Punta Cana, but it never arrived.

Taking part in the investigation, besides the ID AC, are the National Department of Investigations (DNI), the National Director at for Drug Control (DN CD), the National Police, and A - 2 and J - 2 from the Ministry of Defense.

The pilots that handled the plane on its departure, where identified as Fabio Urbina and Hector Rio, who according to the authorities of the air terminal obtained their permission to take off.

Diario Libre learned that the crew took on enough fuel to fly for 3 ½ hours, while the authorities of AILA are maintaining a strict silence regarding the case.

Yesterday, the ID AC confirmed that the airplane took off with a flight plan which minutes later it violated, changing the final destination which is still unknown.

Although all of the state security agencies that converge on the International Airport of Las Americas, from where the airplane took off were activated, and they started the investigation, nobody wants to explain if the plane left with passengers or with merchandise.

The aircraft is registered in the name of Hawker Siddeley, in the United States, and according to information obtained it loaded US $2000 in fuel.

According to one source, the control tower of AILA had the aircraft on the radar, and minutes later it disappeared from the screen, and they were not able to establish communication with the aircraft, in spite of trying to contact the pilots on the radio.

Technicians consulted at this airport, said that this could be a theft, due to the fact that the aircraft left the space controlled by local radar with an unknown destination, and there has still been no news of its whereabouts.

It will be recalled that on 23 October 2011, at the El Higuero International Airport another aircraft was stolen; a turboprop Beechcraft 2000, tail number N871C, which belonged to a subsidiary of the Airport Corporation of the East, valued at US $2.5 million. The aircraft was located in Venezuela five days later.

Search

It was reported that the authorities are searching the area of the Caribbean Sea where they said the airplane was headed, however until now they have found no trace of the plane. In the meantime the search will be suspended during the evening and taken up once again today.

The ID AC sounded the alarm for the international agencies, which will also join in and try to find the aircraft.
