Rector: Peace in the UASD depends on the budget

SANTO DOMINGO. The rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (U ASD) warned yesterday that the tranquility in this school will depend on the budget which the government assigns it for 2015, although they don't want the peaceful climate now being experienced to be interrupted.

Ivan Grullon said that President Danilo Medina and the legislators have to understand the efforts that the University is going through in order to not lose the peace which predominates at this time and that to maintain it depends totally on the treatment that is given to the request for a budgetary increase made by the university authorities.

"We know of the crisis situation which the government has, but we also say that the UASD needs to have its priorities taken care of in order to avoid that unrest reaches our campuses all across the country," expressed the rector.

Grullon said that the University Council worked out a budgetary adjustment of RD $11,0 billion for 2015 and they have taken the institutional steps necessary in order to convince those who have to see about the budgetary allotment.

He assured reporters that the University family is doing what is necessary to avoid that the peace which is being felt in the classrooms of the University does not disappear, but he believes that they cannot just cross their arms, "because of this they are carrying out the institutional movements necessary in order to call for the government to increase the budgetary assignments for next year."
