Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico sign an agreement in several areas of common interest
SANTO DOMINGO. The Mixed Commission of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico agreed yesterday to the creation of a fund of half a million dollars to train and specialize human resources in areas of interest for both nations, as well as provide support in the area of citizen safety.

The Police Academy of Puerto Rico will develop a curriculum for the training of agents from the Dominican National Police to improve public safety. Another of the issues dealt with between both delegations was the interest of Puerto Rico to help the country in the training of professors for the courses of English by Immersion which are being offered by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.

The Minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo, who headed the Dominican delegation, said that they achieved advances on issues relating to agriculture, the fight against drug trafficking, investments and commerce.

In a like manner, the need for a greater commercial exchange between Dominican and Puerto Rican businessmen was promoted, taking advantage of the comparative advantages of the two economies and the preferential treaties for exports.

In a press release distributed by the Communications Directorate of the presidency, it was reported that during the meeting, Minister Montalvo proposed including in the bilateral agenda the issues of risk management, cooperation of the systems of emergency calls (911) and cultural exchanges.

The Mixed Dominican - Puerto Rican Commission was given 60 days to move forward on the common agenda.
