CONATRA and Mochotran announce fare reductions of between $5 and $20 pesos
Housewives ask the government to intervene in price reduction of foodstuffs

SD. The National Confederation of Organizations of Transportation (CONATRA) and the National Central of the Driver's Movement (Mochotran), announced yesterday, separately, a reduction in the prices of fares which go from RD$5 up to RD$20 on different routes, both in the capital as well is in the provinces.
Nevertheless, the population has still been kept waiting, without yet receiving an answer, for the prices of products and services which are offered in the country to also apply the discounts which the cost the fuels have generated.
"Starting today there will be reductions of between RD$5, up to RD$20 on short routes and long routes. We just want to tell the country that we are facing some problems, and with some 17,000 cars that we have using natural gas, we asked the government to reduce this natural gas so that the people can enjoy a complete reduction," said Antonio Marte, after announcing the reduction in the prices of fares in the routes under his control.
He said that the routes between Santo Domingo and Higüey, the fare would go down RD $15; Santo Domingo - Pedernales RD$10, Santo Domingo - Villa Altagracia RD$5 and the Kilometers also RD$5.
Regarding the fair reduction by Mochotran, which was RD$5, was announced by the president of this entity, Alfredo Pulinario Linares (Cambita) and the director general of the Technical Office of Ground Transportation (OTTT), Hector Mojica, during a joint press conference at the government institution.
Among the routes announced by Mochotran for a fare reduction, the most important ones appear to be: Winston Churchill,Los Jardines, Los Angeles Peralejos, John F Kennedy, Paris; La Cienega; Pantoja, Autopista Duarte; Independencia Park, 30 March, among others.
The fuel costs in the Dominican Republic have gone down significantly since crude oil began its downward trend. Nevertheless, although some routes have applied reductions to their fares for transporting passengers, food prices and others as well is services offered in the country have not seen any kind of reduction.
Given this situation, from the fall of fuel prices, the Housewives Association has asked the government to intervene in order for the country to produce a considerable reduction in the prices of basic necessities, since consumers continue purchasing food as if oil prices had no effect on the production processes.
AEIH: electricity is the greatest cost
Given the call by merchants for the industries to lower the prices of their products, in order to this way be able to transfer these reductions to the consumers, the President of the Herrera Industrial Association (AEIH), Victor Castro, said that electricity is one of the principal production costs that this sector has, and that the electricity rates have remained invariable.
He said that this is the reason that the industrial companies have not been able to apply reductions to the prices of their products.
