Hipolito says he respects the decision of Peña Guaba

The former President meets with followers of his project in the sector of Jacagua

SANTIAGO. Former President and nomination hopeful for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Hipolito Mejia, discarded yesterday that this political organization is closing in on an internal division after the resignation of Tony Peña Guaba from the party.

"Luis (Abinader) had to take a decision, he either left Peña Guaba like he wanted, or he put in Chu Vasquez. Luis and everyone decided that Chu would stay as Secretary General because Chu and Andres Bautista have a long-standing friendship and are compadres for many years. What we want in the PRM is that there should be harmony in the leadership in order not to copy the PRD experience," said the former president.

Mejia said he respected the decision by Peña Guaba, who he regarded, the same as other descendents of the former PRD leader, José Francisco Peña Gomez, as his own children as well.

In relation to the proposal by the president of the Social Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRSD), Hatuey de Camps, who suggested the creation of an opposition front, including the PRD and the PRM, in order to face the PLD in the 2016 elections, Mejia indicated that with Miguel Vargas it is very difficult to negotiate, although he did not discard the possibility of reaching an agreement with the president of the White Party.

The former President was approached by reporters as he left a meeting with supporters of his bid for the presidential nomination, held in the municipal district of Los Cocos de Jacagua, in the province of Santiago.
