Medina heads activities for 202nd anniversary of Juan Pablo Duarte
San Francisco de Macoris. The Bishop of the local diocese, Monsignor Fausto Ramon Mejia Vallejo, praised the manner in which President Danilo Medina leads the government, indicating that his high popularity is due to the fact that he is giving real sense and meaning to the policies, which is that of serving others simply and with humility.

"Mister President, I have to tell you here in this Eucharistic service which is so special and patriotic, that the high percentage of your popularity as the nation's leader, is due to the fact that you are changing the manner of doing politics, that you give the correct use of them, being close to the people, knowing their problems and seeking solutions," underlined the Catholic leader for the Northeast, as he headed the Te Deum service on the occasion of the celebration of the 202nd anniversary of the birth of the Father of the Nation, Juan Pablo Duarte, held on the 2nd floor of the Santa Anna Church.

He indicated that with this style of leading the nation, the President has clearly established that politics are to serve others, not oneself.

During his intervention, Bishop Mejia Vallejo expressed the great joy that the inhabitants of Duarte province felt, first because they won the Winter League Baseball Championship with their team, the Gigantes del Cibao , then because of the presence of the Chief of State, and finally for the commemoration of the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte, whose name this province is proud to carry.

The parade

After the religious acts, there was a military and civilian parade along 27 February Ave., next to Duarte Park where the provincial Governor, Miledys Nuñez, welcomed the guests and stressed the great contributions of the founder of the Dominican nation, and called upon young persons to imitate the efforts made by Duarte.

She said that only by working every day, "can we Dominicans reach the goal desired by Duarte, of having a free, independent and sovereign nation. It is our youth of today who have to struggle harder every day to strengthen families and so that we have a better education," said the provincial Governor.

She praised the investments that President Danilo Medina has made both in the literacy program as well is in favor of Dominican education and the protection of our children and the elderly.

The participation of the different branches of the armed services of the Dominican Republic in the parade was notable, as well as dozens of public and private schools and universities of the region.

Different groups of majorettes from the public and private schools in the parade attracted a lot of attention from the President and his entourage, among whom were the First Lady, Candida Montilla de Medina, the Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito, the Senator from the province, Amilcar Romero, the Judicial Consultant, Cesar Pina Toribio and the chairman of the Commission of Patriotic Commemorations, Juan Danielle Balcacer.
