PRSC proclaims Quique Antun its presidential candidate

SANTO DOMINGO. The Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) proclaimed yesterday Federico Antun Batlle (Quique), as their candidate for the presidency in the 2016 elections. The proclamation was made during the Ordinary National Assembly and/or the Extraordinary Convention held in the Volleyball Pavilion in the Olympic Center.

During the act in which 1675 reformist delegates took part (65.17%) of a list of 2570, party leader Victor - Ito - Bisono was sworn in as interim president of the party, together with Danny Perdomo, Ricardo Espaillat, Juan Luis Selman, and Carlos Eligio Linares, who were sworn in as vice presidents, as well as another 10 members of the presidential directorory. The recording secretary, Ramon Felix Madera, without taking notice of the numbers that were obtained by the reporters, said that the necessary quorum existed for the legal celebration of the event.

Upon accepting the nomination for the presidency, Antun Batlle declared that "the unequivocal decision of thereform movement has been ratified, which is to thresh out its own road and to build a new, refreshing, nationalistic and authentic option of government, that puts its ear on the heart of the people and invests even the last penny collected, in improving the living condition of the people. He stated that "full of emotion and pride, I want to tell you, that I take on the challenge of properly representing Reformist - Balaguerist policies, in the next election campaign. I will present my credentials as a political leader, but above all I will represent a school and a style of governing."

The convention also defined 191 candidacies, of which 14 are candidates for Senators, two of them from the youth movements; 58 candidates for deputies, of which 10 are for the youth groups, nine for women and another 10 to represent the civil society.

The National Assembly also approved 65 candidates for mayor of which 12 represent the youth sector, six are reserved for women and 15 for the civil society. They selected 60 candidates for municipal director he's, of which 20 are for their youth sector, 11 for women and 10 for representatives of the civil society. Upon proposing the candidates for approval, Felix Madera stressed that "there are still more than 3900 candidacies to be defined," urging the reformists present not to be anxious.

"We are more united than ever"

The brand-new interim president of the PRSC, Victor Bisono, announced after being sworn-in: "We are here together and more united than ever." The three term deputy, said that this is a new stage, in which he said "we will keep betting on the re-launch of the party, just as we did in the Reformist Reunion and as we do every weekend when we visit barrios of the National District where we create neighborhood bases." He said he felt blessed with the ties of friendship which he has built with reformist leaders of the country and overseas, to whom he expressed his commitment to continue working."
