Rains expected on the North coast this Holy Week

The COE issued yesterday a green alert for Puerto Plata and Espaillat as a precaution for the rains

SD. The frontal system that is affecting the climate of the country will be stationary the rest of the week, so that the forecast calls for weak to moderate rains along the North Shore, in the Northeast and on the North side of the Central Mountains.

"In other words, this is what we can expect this Holy Week, a week of rains, that will not be continuous, but yes, the influence of this frontal system, well, it is going to produce rains," said the director of the National Meteorological Office (Onamet), Gloria Ceballos.

The expert noted that for today they expect a reduction of the rains, but that for the areas mentioned these will increase on Thursday and Friday, and once again be reduced on Saturday.

According to Ceballos, the rains will affect more the tourism of the mountains, because there will be more frequent in the Central Mountain range and in the mountain systems. "Who is ever planned to go to the beach, there are no advisories with relation to waves, which will be normal; what they will have are periods of rain," she made clear.

These rains will not be significant in the East or in the Southwest, said the official, "but during the afternoons there could be some showers."

Alert

Due to the rains in the last hours, the Center of Emergency Operations (COE) issued a green alert for Puerto Plata and Espaillat because of possible flooding in the lower areas.
