Miguel Vargas: We have to come closer with opposition sectors
SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD has worked, over the last several months, in creating the conditions to bring together political parties and organizations, with the steady purpose of forming an opposition front in order to impede the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) from continuing in power.

Upon being questioned yesterday about whether or not they will be a coming together with the presidential candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Luis Abinader, the president of the PRD, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, said that "this is the function of the responsibility of the PRD in order to achieve precisely a political movement that is capable of taking the Dominican Liberation Party out of power."

The presidential candidate of the White Party reiterated that he will meet with all of the sectors of the opposition. Likewise, he said that the circumstances, "in their moment," will establish if he should sacrifice his candidacy, in order to open the way for a candidate from the opposition.

Likewise he said that there are 13 months to go before the election contest, so that he said he would wait and continue working to strengthen the political organization (PRD) in the national territory.

Vargas Maldonado commented that he would continue proclaiming, with a consensus, candidates for municipal positions, in order that the people have "the change that they have called for and deserve."

The PRD President spoke after taking part in a Eucharistic service at the First Cathedral of America, in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the April Revolution of 1965.

A party with structure at the national level

During the Mass the presidential candidate of the Dominican Revolutionary Party expressed his appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice of the martyrs of the April Revolution, whose struggle - he added - was not in vain.

Regarding this effort, he said that the heroes of April left as a legacy the commitment to defend peace and dignity as well as the respect of the Constitution.
