SANTO DOMINGO. The Chief of the Police issued yesterday a vehement call to parents in order that they avoid that their minor children surf on the social networks.
Castro Castillo referred to the issue, as he reported that in La Romana, Luis Rafael Morel Mejia, 20, directed a group that created phantom accounts on the social networks, especially on Facebook, "and acted as if they were young girls, in order to attract minors and even grown-ups."
According to the police, before agreeing to a date, the accused asked for photographs and videos of the minors without clothes, and he added that once they came to the date, they were extorted and obliged to have sexual relations, and they had to give him money under the threat of publishing the content of their emails on the networks.
"Because of this we want the parents to be aware of the situation, and not permit that their young boys and girls surf on the networks. This is a danger that we should avoid," he said.
Castro Castillo said that today is nearly impossible that the children can be educated without a computer or a smart phone, "but we ask that they be supervised by their parents in order to avoid this type of thing," added the Chief of the Police.
