DN receives from North and East SD 208,000 vehicles per day

It is estimated that more than 484,000 passengers enter the nation's capital on a daily basis

SANTO DOMINGO. The extract of the Report on the Volume of Vehicular Traffic and of Persons on Bridges of the National District reveals that coming from the municipalities of East Santo Domingo and North Santo Domingo some 208,590 vehicles enter the National District every day, carrying what is estimated to be some 484,520 passengers that are a floating population.

The study carried out by the Ayuntamiento of the National District (ADN) during last year covered some 24 points of entry and exit for vehicular traffic around all of the National District, from which they carried out the computation of the municipalities mentioned above.

The director of Urban Transit and Mobility of the National District, Angel Segura, said that the study will permit the city government to develop long-term strategies.

The document stresses that the largest amount of people enter from East Santo Domingo across the Juan Bosch Bridge, with some 61,712 vehicles per day, carrying an estimated number of passengers of 109,972 persons. Over the Mella Bridge some 36,012 vehicles per day enter the National District carrying some 138,983 passengers. In addition, over the Sanchez Bridge some 24,082 vehicles carry each day some 55,539 passengers, and over the floating bridge some 14,793 vehicles with an estimated 30,901 passengers enter the city. In total the report of the ADN says that some 136,599 automobiles go-betweens East Santo Domingo and the National District.

North Santo Domingo

From the municipality of North Santo Domingo or Villa Mella it is estimated that some 71,991 vehicles per day in total enter the city. The principal entry and exit is the Francisco J. Peynado Bridge which connects Maximo Gomez Avenue in the National District and Hermanas Mirabal in Villa Mella. Across this bridge some 52,304 vehicles a day crossover with some 112,628 passengers, approximately. The other entrance for vehicles to the National District, from Villa Mella is the Jacobo Majluta Avenue which is used by some 19,687 vehicles a day, carrying some 36,497 passengers.
