THE VATICAN.- Pope Francis told the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier Garcia, of his desire and interest in visiting the Dominican Republic, the birthplace of the evangelization of the New World.

As he was received by the Pope in the Vatican, Minister Garcia expressed to the Pontiff the interest of the Dominican people to receive his Holiness. "In the Dominican Republic we are waiting for you with great enthusiasm and love, since we are a truly Christian people and it was here where the evangelization began for the New World," expressed Garcia to Pope Francis.

"It is I, Señor Minister, who has the desire and the interest to visit the Dominican Republic," he answered the official in the audience where he was received together with his wife Jeanis Hernandez de Garcia, according to a press release sent to the media.

The Minister of Tourism expressed his appreciation to the religious leader for the statements and he told him that the Dominican people would be truly delighted with his visit.

Within the framework of his visit to the Vatican, Minister Garcia held meetings in order to promote religious tourism to the Dominican Republic. In this sense he reported that he received a communication by the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi, an agency of the Holy See which for more than 80 years organizes pilgrimages.

He said that he would prepare a proposal in order to guarantee that the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi visits the Dominican Republic.
