SANTO DOMINGO. Besides the political opposition and the criticisms of many against the re-election of President Leonel Fernandez, leaders of thirteen parties gathered in the Progressive Bloc, would be willing to work towards the President seeking his third consecutive term in office.

To this end, the principle leaders of these organizations asked the nation's leader to make a decision quickly regarding his re-nomination in order to begin the work in favor of his remaining in office until 2016.

The allies of the government's party set forth their positions in the first strategy session for a new Fernandez nomination, coordinated by the director of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (Caasd), Freddy Perez. The meeting was held in the house of the engineer, Luis Espinal.

Taking part in the meeting were Reformists Humberto Salazar and Johnny Jones; Andres Vander Horst, of the Structure; Jose Francisco Peña Guaba of the Social-Democrat Institutional Bloc (BIS); Luis Acosta Moreta (El Gallo) for the Christian Democratic Union (UDC); Leoncio Almanzar, of the Popular Reformist Party; Salvador Gomez from the Balaguer Current; Blas Peralta, the president of Fenatrado., and others.

Several of them said that only President Fernandez can keep the Progressive Bloc tied to the government's Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), and guarantee victory in 2012.

In his speech, Freddy Perez was categorical in indicating that Fernandez is the only leader that deserves to be re-elected, since "this will benefit the people".

Salazar argued that it was necessary to create the scenario for the re-nomination.

In the meantime, Peña Guaba said that Fernandez is the best card that the PLD has to play, but they need to create some important conditions, such as a greater role for the allies in the government, adapted to its electoral strength. The majority insisted in calling for more participation in the government.
