Scrap metal companies call for new tender
David Santiago
SANTO DOMINGO. The National Association of Scrap Metal Companies of the Dominican Republic (Asonamerd), which unites the majority of the country's scrap metal exporters, called on the authorities of National Assets, the Director General of Customs and the government of President Leonel Fernandez to convene a new tender that will permit all of the companies in the sector to participate in a transparent and democratic process with regard to the negotiation that involves metals coming from the Cruz de Manzanillo Project.

The president of the association, David Santiago, called the process that was followed in allocating the sale of these ferrous and non-ferrous metals to a company that was recently created, that is not registered as a metal exporter and does not have an authorization from the Center for Exports and Investment of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD) "irregular to say the least".
