Courts of the country will not work today as storm passes

SD. The Council of the Judicial Power reported that today all work in the courts around the country is suspended in view of the imminent arrival of the Tropical Storm Isaac in the Dominican Republic.

The measure was ordered in a circular that was sent to the more than 600 courts in the country. With this warning, the courts should set other dates for the hearings that are pending, in view of the fact that all of the administrative and courtroom work is on hold for today.

In the meantime the Chief of the National Police announced that all of the personnel is on call and in their station houses and at the disposition of relief agencies in the eventual passage of Isaac over the country.

The Police chief, Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, reported that the directors of the 13 Regional Centers have been advised of the situation.



Presidential Palace begins to apply austerity program

SANTO DOMINGO. At the Presidential Palace they began to take the austerity measures and so comply with the disposition s of President Danilo Medina.

Yesterday, Jose Ramon Peralta, the Minister for Presidential Administration, sent a circular to all of the offices in the Palace, including the Vice-President, where he lists the savings measures that should be undertaken from now on.

Among the measure are turning out the lights, air conditioners, computers, printers, photocopiers, calculators and electronic equipment at lunch hour.

Also, the circular says that the lights should be turned off in the bathrooms after their use, all light bulbs should be low consumption, the temperature settings for the air conditioners should be on "Low" when in use, and turn off the lights in the outside hallways during the day, among other things.
