62 PRD and PRM deputies call for pact between MV, Mejia and Abinader
SANTO DOMINGO. Sixty-two deputies from the Dominican Revolutionary (PRD) and Modern Revolutionary (PRM) parties demanded yesterday that their leaders, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, Hipolito Mejia and Luis Abinader reach an electoral agreement in the interest of maintaining their seats in the National Congress after the 2016 elections.

Both parties make up a list of 77 deputies of which 43 are from the PRD and 34 from the PRM.

Only 15 deputies did not sign a document sent to the leaders of those parties, which was released yesterday in a press conference by the PRD spokesman, Ruddy Gonzalez.

Nevertheless, the letter is dated 7 October 2014.

On 25 November 2014 several media had reported that 52 deputies had signed a similar document.

In the letter that they signed, they say that "we suggest the renewal of the conversations leading to the unity of our respective political forces in order to guarantee a useful and vertical opposition, as well as seizing power in the coming election contest."

Gonzalez said that if the top leadership does not achieve an electoral alliance this group of deputies hopes that they are permitted to contract local alliances.

He said that the document delivered to the PRD and PRM leaders seeks that they renew the dialogue which had been started previously in order to establish a political front that would get the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) out of power. "And to the contrary, if this is not possible then the provincial, municipal and district leadership, from both parties, should be allowed to present tickets agreed-upon and unified in order to increase the congressional representation, the mayors, the city council members, all over the national geography. This is the intention of the 62 deputies," he affirmed.

He said that the legislators expect that in an "intelligent" manner Vargas Maldonado, Mejia and Abinader come to an agreement.

He stressed that power is acquired "not all of a sudden but rather taking it bit by bit."

Who are they?

Among the group of PRD deputies that demand an election alliance for 2016 are, besides Gonzalez, Victor Gomez Casanova, Graciela Fermín, Carlos Gabriel García, José Altagracia (Radhamés) González and Ramón Santana.

Also, Pedro Carreras Santana, Leivi Guerrero, Juan Maldonado, Guillermo Ramos García and Pedro Alejandro Aguirre.

For the PRM, the following deputies signed the letter: Ramón Bueno, Jorge Frías, Esther Minyetti, Eugenio Cedeño, Wellington Arnaud, Elpidio Infante, Evangelina Sosa, José Paliza and David Collado.

Among those that did not sign the letter are the spokesman for the PRM, Nelsón Arroyo along with Hugo Nuñez, Geovanny Tejada, Alberto Atallah, Hugo Tolentino Dipp, Josefa Castillo, Néstor Cruz Pichardo, Aníbal Rosario and José Santana Suriel.
