A day of Clean Air and Healthy Life in SFM
SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORIS. The bishopric of San Francisco de Macoris and the Northeast Catholic University (Universidad Católica Norestana)-UCNE-held the ninth program of "A Day of Clean Air and Health Life" in the Duarte Park in the middle of town. The objective was to create a consciousness regarding the preservation of the environment and the natural resources.

The activity consisted in having no motor vehicle traffic that day. Among the specific aims of the program are: to clean the respiratory systems of the inhabitants of Duarte province; create an ecological culture at the local, regional and national levels; create a current of public opinion in favor of the environment; integrate all the sectors of the community to be conscious of their habitat and to observe the behavior before and after the day and carry out the corresponding analysis.

The formal act began at 10:00 o'clock in the morning in Duarte Park and was headed by the bishop of the dioceses and the Grand Chancellor of the UCNE, Monsignor Jesus Maria de Jesus Moya, and the rector of the university Father Alfredo de la Cruz.

De Jesus Moya argued for taking those measures that halt the deterioration of the environment, such as the movement of people by non-contaminating means such as walking, bicycles or horseback.

The program included artistic and cultural presentations as well as sports activities.
