A lot of activity on Fathers Day

SANTO DOMINGO.-Thousands flocked to cemeteries to leave flowers yesterday, Father's Day in the Dominican Republic. Others tried to show their appreciation for their fathers by going shopping for the deal gift.

At one of the main commercial centers in Santo Domingo, buyers flocked to buypresents and stood in long lines to have their gifts wrapped for father.

In the Mirador Sur Park, some fathers celebrated the day by doing their exercise routines. Others, like Juan Paulino Jimenez, went to the park to be with family and friends.

The other aspect of the day was for those fathers that were no longer on this world. For these deceased, there were flowers, candles and prayers offered by relatives who did not forget, and flocked to the cemeteries such as Cristo Redentor to carry flowers, light a candle or say a few prayers.

In the hospice of the Little Sisters of the Abandoned, the old folks, such as don Gerardo Méndez, 97, started his day like always, by taking part in Mass. He said he felt good with the way the sisters treated him and he was waiting for his children to visit.

Prioritization will affect communities
