Amable Aristy resigns from the PRSC; the party convenes leadership today
SANTO DOMINGO. The former presidential candidate of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), Amable Aristy Castro, resigned yesterday his position as a member of the Presidential Directory, by means of a letter addressed to the president of the party, Federico Antun Batlle, with a copy to the secretary-general, Ramon Rogelio Genao.

He said that he would continue his feelings for Balaguer "from any place."

His resignation comes in the midst of rumors of his departure from the PRSC, over differences with the Reformist leadership.

"On the occasion of communicating through you to the other organisms of the Social Christian Reformist Party our decision to resign, starting today, of our condition as a member of the Presidential Directory," says the letter.

"I take the previously expressed decision guided by unavoidable ethical imperatives," he continued.

The PRSC will deal with the resignation today, since the Presidential Directory, the organism composed of 46 party leaders, was invited today at 9:00 in the morning to the main headquarters of this organization.

Over the last few weeks, it was mentioned that Aristy agreed to the acquisition of a minority party, which would be La Estructura.

Aristy has been elected senator 6 times since 1990, but he resigned this position in 1998, 2002 and 2006 in order to head the Dominican Municipal League (LMD).

With the resignation by Aristy there are now 2 presidential candidates from this party that have left the party, since in July 2007: Eduardo Estrella formed his own party, after being defeated by Aristy Castro in the primaries.

A commission of party leaders composed of Genao, Alexandra Izquierdo, Eddy Alcantara and other leaders tried to get Aristy to stay in the party, but he refused to talk about this.

Party leader Modesto Guzmán asked him to reflect on this and remain in the PRSC, "no matter which way the wind blows and the political circumstances of the moment."

Other important leaders that have left the PRSC have been Fernando Alvarez Bogaert and Carlos Morales Troncoso, who later returned and became the PRSC party president in August 2009.
