Cardinal and Mons. Nuñez Collado tie up details on pact
There is still no signing date and there is a lot of jealousy among the parties

SANTO DOMINGO. In the face of the calls by different sectors and with the approval of the political parties, Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez and Monsignor Agripino Nuñez Collado are working out the last details of what will be the Pact of Civility that seeks to lower the aggressive tone of the political campaign and avoid at all costs the occurrence of violent incidents during the last stretch.
The initiative pretends to harmonize somewhat the current electoral panorama which has been muddied with accusations between the party in power and the opposition Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).
Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez said yesterday the he hopes to achieve something with the pact, as he works on the rough draft for the approval of the candidates.
"I expect that it will be quick, there is no need to wait until May to do it, it does not have a complicated content, it is to put yourself in agreement that the personal accusations cease and that the political propaganda be oriented to what each candidate will offer in case he wins the elections," the Cardinal emphasized.
He pointed out that there is still no signing date set and that as soon as they finish with it, they will send it to all the candidates on the same day and at the same time for their review previous to signing.
Regarding the issue, Nuñez Collado referred to the fact that once the document is ready all the actors will be contacted. Yesterday the monsignor met with the Cardinal to go over the proposal, evaluate the situation and talk about what the Civility Pact will be.
