CONEP announces it will do exit poll
Gallup will poll 7,000 voters in the country

SANTO DOMINGO. The National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep) will carry out an exit poll next 20 May when the country holds its presidential elections.
The exit poll will be carried out by Gallup Dominicana with a sample of 7,000 interviews-chosen randomly-all over the country.
The information was offered by Manuel Diez Cabral, the Conep president, together with the president of Gallup Dominicana, Rafael Acevedo.
Diez Cabral explained that the Central Electoral Board (JCE) did not object to Gallup doing the polls and the objective of doing it is part of the commitment by the business sector to develop activities oriented to strengthening the democratic and institutional system.
The exit poll will be taken after the voter has cast his vote. The pollsters will be located 50 meters from the ballot boxes and voting places.
The Conep president said that business is not afraid of the election process.
Rafael Acevedo, president of Gallup Dominicana, explained that the exit poll is used in all the countries of the world.
He explained that people are not interviewed, but rather they are given a form which is self-administered and the person will deposit it in a box carried by the pollster, and after the work is finished the results will be given to the Central Electoral Board. Acevedo said that they are not worried about anyone boycotting the poll, since they have always known how to respect this type of work. He referred to the fact that Gallup has been carrying out this sort of work for more than 80 years, and so it neither fears anyone nor has it had any sort of incidents.
Diez Cabral called on all Dominicans to vote massively, since it is a wonderful right that has been obtained at the cost of a lot of sweat and work by the Dominicans.
The business leader asked Dominicans to vote without violence, without and aggression and because they feel it is considered to be correct.
He added that the Conep will work with whoever is elected President of the Republic, and they will give their unconditional support for the challenges that they expect the country to face. He said that any report or complaint about the electoral process should be investigated.
