Deputies approve loan for cities and towns
SD. The Chamber of Deputies declared the measure to be of an urgent nature and approved it after two consecutive readings. The legislative authorization will allow the Banco de Reservas to finance a billion peso loan to be distributed to the State's decentralized and non-financial autonomous entities as well as the various municipal governments, including the National District and municipal districts, for the payment of the Christmas bonus to their employees.

In a session that was led by the president of the Lower House, Abel Martinez, who had to take a break from his medical leave of absence, the initiative that will bring tranquility to many city governments and to their employees was passed. The bill had the support of all of the political parties.

The proposal also authorizes the Banco de Reservas to convert the short term loan (a line of credit) for US$210 million which it extended to the Ministry of Hacienda, into a long term loan .

The loan will be for a maximum period of 11 monthly payments and at a preferential interest rate which was not specified.

Bond emission

The deputies also passed as urgent the legislation that will authorize the Ministry of Hacienda to issue bonds for RD$18 billion to finance the 2012 budget. The legislation had the favorable opinion of the Hacienda Commission.

Loans

The deputies approves loans for US$300 million and €$78.5 million for the electric sector, the Coral Expressway, and the reorganization of the provinces of Montecristi, Azua, San Cristobal, San Jose de Ocoa and Neyba. The loan contract for US$30 million from the IDB (the Inter American Development Bank) which will finance the promotion of tourism in the Colonial Zone was also approved.

Senate resolution favors Aerodom

Pared Perez threatens to resign if any senator is proved to have extorted money

SD. The Senate approved last night the resolution which stressed that Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) is recognized as having complied with all of the investment obligations established in the Concession Contract. This was according to the report from the Ministry of Public Works. The resolution also recommends that the concessionaire work out with the Government a new timetable for its investments.

Regarding the issue, the president of the Senate, Reinaldo Pared Perez, complained that there were sectors that he accused of trying to damage the image of the Senate, and he offered to resign if it is proven that someone in the Senate has extorted money from business sectors in order to approve a project.

"This should not have become public, these discussions between Victor Diaz Rua, Aristides Fernandez Zucco, with the Senator Adriano Sanchez Roa, that got into a fight without any basis," he said.

The document passed by the Senate says that in this way the process of modernizing the airport terminals of the country will continue.

The resolution says that the special Senate commission verified with the CESAC, the security levels of the airports run by the Aerodom concessionaire.

It adds that the commissioners were able to confirm, moreover, that Aerodom is committed to take care of the pending issues, and at the same time they committed themselves to the purchase of the equipment needed to track explosives which is being demanded by the Transportation Safety Administration of the United States.
