Disturbances caused several deaths and injured
Police transfer colonel from Salcedo

SANTO DOMINGO. The Chief of Police, Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, ordered yesterday the transfer of part of the Police detachment in Salcedo, including the commanding officer, Colonel Eduard Almanzar Tejada, who now becomes deputy director of Criminal Investigations in Puerto Plata.
He was substituted by Colonel Juan Antonio Lora Castro, who was in Puerto Plata. The transfer comes after the disturbances from last week in which four persons died.
Regarding these events, the Popular Front for the Fight (FALPO) has issued a seven day period starting today for the authorities to clear up the death of the sports leader, Hector Ramon Medina, who was killed on 12 May and whose death unleashed the strike which left four dead and 22 wounded.
The FALPO organization also announced that it would file a lawsuit against the Dominican Republic with the Inter American Commission of Human Rights and with Amnesty International for these deaths.
"We are not going to stand idly by, nobody is going to halt our struggle and Salcedo will continue to demonstrate," said Victor Breton, the spokesman for Falpo.
During the protests in Salcedo, Jonathan Paulino, Dilenia Quezada, Ricardo Guzman and Antonio Cacerez all died. There were also 22 persons wounded by gunfire during the disturbances.
