DNCD arrested a Cali capo

SANTO DOMINGO. The National Department for Drug Control (DNCD) reported that they had arrested a major Colombian capo, the representative of the Cali cartel. He was immediately handed over to the United States authorities who got him out of the country under strict security measures.

The capo was identified as Luis Alberto Santacruz Echeverri, a.k.a. Lucho, a half-brother to the infamous Jose Santacruz Londoño, a.k.a. Chepe, considered to be one of the strong men of the Cali cartel.

The DNCD described Santacruz Echeverri as the head of an organization that receives cocaine dropped from airplanes in the South and Northeast, and because of this he was under observation by the drug agency. He was also sought by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for smuggling drugs into the US.

Santacruz Echeverri was arrested by the Tactical Division of Sensitive Investigations (DITIS) on 27 de Febrero Avenue at the corner of Abraham Lincoln in Santo Domingo. He lived in a villa out on the beach at Juan Dolio and there was an arrest warrant signed by a judge waiting for him.
