Doctors will work in one hospital for 6 hours a day
This is something the Government obtained in the negotiations with the doctors

SANTO DOMINGO. Beginning next August, those doctors that work in more than one hospital can opt to work in just one, either public or belonging to the Dominican Social Security Institute (IDSS) and work a six hour shift and receive a salary equal to the two jobs.
This is part of the agreement for the 30% increase in salaries, in three steps, that was signed yesterday between the Government and the Dominican Medical College (CMD). This ended two years and six months of struggle by the doctors.
The agreement was signed by the Vice Minister of Health, Roberto Peguero, in representation of the minister, Bautista Rojas Gomez, and Senen Caba the CMD president. Monsignor Agripino Nuñez Collado also signed as the Witness of Honor.
The pact included the hiring of 250 doctors, 600 nurses and 1000 health promoters.
It also promises to carry out an audit of the human resources at all of the state-run health centers in order to resolve salary distortions.
The president of the CMD said he was satisfied with the signing because a spirit of compromise prevailed.
The doctors managed to put into the 2011 National Budget the funds needed to pay the monthly incentive of RD$1500 for those doctors who do shifts in the emergency rooms and RD$8000 per month for those that work on the frontier and in places that are difficult to access.
They also obtained that the increase will include the pensions that the Ministry of Hacienda currently pays pensioned doctors.
In the agreement, the government is committed to progressively retire the recovery fees in the public hospitals.
One point that the Vice President Rafael Alburquerque underlined was that the parties are committed to push for quality service at all levels of attention and the entry into service this year of the unique public network of health to strengthen the primary care.
