Dr. Andres Peralta Corniel laid to rest

SANTIAGO. Yesterday afternoon the remains of Dr. Andres Emilio Peralta Corniel, the Father of Dominican Bioethics and the creator of the operational structures for the investigative ethics in the country were laid to rest.

Dr. Peralta Corniel, died Saturday morning at the age of 83, after suffering health problems which were being treated at his home by his family of doctors: His wife Dr. Marina de Peralta and his children, Doctors Jorge, Victor and Alberto Peralta. The viewing was held at the Blandino Funeral Parlor until four o'clock yesterday and from there the funeral cortege left for a Christian burial at the Cemetery in El Ingenio, to the west of Santiago.

Dr. Peralta was the medical director of the Cibao Regional Oncological Institute and a member of the International Bioethics Committee of the UNESCO. He dedicated more than 50 years of experience in the area of medicine, specifically in the fields of radiology, with an emphasis on the area of radio therapy.

His interest in the area of bioethics started in the 1980w when he founded for the first time in this country, the National Bioethics Committee. Through different institutions Dr. Peralta was involved in the development of bioethics in other Latin American countries.

The first organization that he created was the American Federation of Bioethical Institutions, with headquarters in Venezuela and Colombia. He was a professor and Academic Vice-Rector of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) among other university functions.
