Elderly call for Public Health to deliver milk
SANTO DOMINGO. Dozens of elderly persons told reporters they have not received the packages of milk that the Ministry of Public Health normally supplied to them, for over five months, and that is why they established a vigil outside of the ministry.
First, they carried out a protest a little after 10:00 a.m., and at noon six persons remained, four women and two men, who said that they were keeping a vigil until the authorities found a solution. At that time nobody had met with them.
José Andres Moran is a resident of the sector of Los Guandules who has 127 persons registered in his distribution point, and he receives 25 boxes, each one with 40 packages of milk, which he distributes at six per person.
The persons who receive the food live in the sectors of La Cienega, Gualey, Los Guamdules, Capotillo and other poor barrios of Greater Santo Domingo.
The authorities reported that the delay was due to the lack of a tender and that the program will be eliminated.
