Fernandito Villalona suffers pre-heart attack
NEW YORK. The popular Dominican merengue singer Fernando Villalona, suffered a near heart attack around noontime on Tuesday, while he left a bank branch in Queens, where he has his business account. He was hospitalized in New York Hospital where he will stay for two days of observation.

The international manager of Villalona, Enrique Paulino (Enriquito) confirmed to the Diario Libre reporter Miguel Cruz Tejada that Villalona was hospitalized. Although he said that this was just : a little pain in the chest", a source in the medical center confirmed that the artist arrived suffering from what they called a "pre-cardiac arrest".

In addition, it was said that if Fernandito had not been taken to the hospital in time, he could have suffered a massive heart attack. Paulino rejected the versions that said that the heart problems of the merengue singer came from the strong emotional impact of the death of the ballplayer Jose Lima, whose death Villalona publically mourned.

Villalona spent a half hour with the DL reporter at the restaurant "La Casa del Mofongo", owned by businessman Felix Cabrera, where he got together with friends and fans.

Paulino, who handles the presentations of the merengue star in the United States, explained that the performer of "Dominicano soy", left the bank and went with some friends to run some personal errands, and this was when he suffered the pre-attack.

"No, this is not a pre-attack; he only felt some little pains in the chest. He is a little affected by the death of Jose Lima, he is in the hospital because they are doing analysis, but the doctors said that this is routine and the he (Villalona) is just fine", added Paulino.

He said that each time Fernandito has a tour, he does the same checkups and therefore the situation is not to get alarmed about. "This doesn't have anything to do with pre-infarction nor anything like that, he told the doctor about a little pain in the chest and the doctors decided the keep him hospitalized to do some checks", explained Villalona's manager.

Paulino told how he had just left Villalona to do some errands himself and how he had sent Villalona with his driver.

"He is stable and is very good, for now, they have not diagnosed any heart problems and he will go home shortly", the representative of the famous merengue interpreter said. A press conference programmed for last night with Villalona was suspended because of the situation.
