Government confirms today starts payment of bonus to public employees
SANTO DOMINGO. The National Treasury of the Republic confirmed yesterday that beginning today they would start the payment of the double salary or the Christmas Salary to the public employees, for which they will set aside RD $9.9 billion for 440,000 public servants.

The first persons that will receive the payment of their Christmas bonus, according to the Treasury, will be the pensioners and the employees of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health, because they represent the institutions with the greatest number of employees.

The principle commercial establishments of the Dominican Republic, which began to feel the movement of Christmas sales last weekend, when the country celebrated Black Friday, are now prepared once again to receive the great number of clients which starting today begin to collect their Christmas bonus or the Christmas Salary.

According to the President of the National Organization of Commercial Enterprises (ONEC), Ernesto Martinez, this 2014 has been better for commerce than previous years, and he said because of this end of the year the sales of Black Friday were better than those in 2013,. He said that this was due to the fact that on this occasion there was a greater acceptance (of Black Fridy) by the public.

"In this end of the year, let's say that it has been a little better than in previous years, because Black Friday which began last weekend showed sales that were much more dynamic than last year, so this marked the beginning of the Christmas season with really extraordinary sales," indicated Martinez.

In addition, the business leader said he was hopeful that sales will continue in the stores now with the beginning of the payment of the Christmas bonus.

"You know that money has been very restricted, above all over the last 2 months, so our expectations are that, above all with the payment of the double salary, the money in circulation increases, and therefore we expect to see that sales will be better than last year," he specified.

During a recent survey taken by the Diario Libre, the reporters were able to obtain information that indicated that the majority of persons who collected their double salary would spend it on painting the house, buying new clothes, preparing the Christmas Eve dinner and "giving something" to the family.

ASDE already paid

With an amount of more than RD $29 million, the Ayuntamiento of East Santo Domingo disbursed the Christmas bonus to its employees, being the first city government of the country to comply with his duty, and as is now the custom, without taking out a loan.

By instructions from Mayor Juan de los Santos, it has become a tradition that the employees of the city are the first in the country to receive their double salary, according to a press release from the municipality.

For his part, Mayor Juan de los Santos said that this city government has the commitment to develop an efficient financial labor supported by the human component, so that he reiterated his disposition to continue working with transparency, and in strict compliance of the laws, but above all with great fiscal discipline, in order not to have to use a loan in order to comply with this payment.

Salary number 13 was delivered to the members of the City Council and the administrative personnel through the use of direct deposits.

It is expected that 2014 ends better than 2013

The president of the National Organization of Commercial Enterprises (ONEC), Ernesto Martinez, said that this sector expects to surpass the sales of last year, because 2013 was not a good period for commerce.

"We expect to surpass the sales, above all because remember that 2013 was a year when we practically had the entire year of declining sales, the first three quarters were declining sales, and only in the last quarter did sales pick up last year," he indicated. Nevertheless, Martinez said that although this year they have felt the lack of money circulating, 2014 has been better than 2013 4 commerce in the Dominican Republic.
