Government seeks "friendly" agreement between CDEEE and AES

SANTO DOMINGO. The authorities and the AES Andres firm are at the point of reaching a commercial agreement that will correct a supposed failure to comply with the contract for energy sales of the generator to the Dominican state.
For this purpose, the Presidential Minister, Cesar Pina Toribio, met individually with Marcos de la Rosa, the president of AES Dominicana, and with the vice-president of the Dominican Corporation of State-owned Electricity Enterprises (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini.
According to the Electricity Distributor of the East (Ede-Este), the AES unilaterally and without the approval of the State as a partner, temporarily reduced the capacity to 50 megawatts (MW) when the contract requires a total of 300 MW. The authorities understand, moreover, that AES is probably selling this energy to the private sector.
Upon leaving the meeting with Pina Toribio, De la Rosa guaranteed that between the parties there will be a "friendly" agreement, but he did not offer more details.
Responding to reporters' questions, the executive rejected the idea that AES failed to fulfill the contract signed with the Dominican state.
For his part, Marranzini indicated that the ideal solution to a commercial stalemate is to reach some understanding, because they are dealing with a problem between a supplier and a customer. "The important thing is that both parties have the intention to reach an agreement", he said after leaving the meeting at the seat of government.
The confrontation between the CDEEE and AES has reached the Senate, which formed a commission in order to speak with Marranzini and with De la Rosa so that they can explain the issues.
In this sense, the vice-president of the CDEEE showed that he was willing to go before the Senate when the legislators feel it is convenient, in order to explain the situation. He reminded the reporters that he has always heeded the calls that are made from the National Congress.
On the other hand, De la Rosa does not think that the affair will reach the National Congress, because he understands that before that an agreement will be reached regarding the problem which he reiterated, was commercial in nature.
