Immigration director denies Sobeida left
Sigfrido Pared Perez, director if Inmigration
SANTO DOMINGO. The director of Immigration, vice-admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez, said yesterday that after a thorough investigation he confirmed that no woman named Sobeida Felix Morel or Sobeida Feliz Morel left the country by way of the Las Americas International Airport (AILA).

The official told the Diario Libre that Immigration carried out the investigation at the request of the National Police, and that after reviewing the passenger lists and reservations lists of the flights that left on 12 November from AILA, there was no person with that name listed.

He added that he even contacted the immigration authorities in Spain, the country where it is presumed that the fugitive could have fled to, and they reported that no passenger with the name of Sobeida Felix Morel had been registered as arriving.

It was thought that Sobeida Felix Morel had left the country on flight 88 of Air Europa heading to Madrid, Spain last 12 November, from AILA.

Pared Perez said that on that flight or on any other of the flights on that day was that name registered.

He said that the last departure for Feliz Morel was registered on 8 August, when she traveled to Puerto Rico. The woman who is now a fugitive was detained last 3 September in relation to the seizure by the National Department of Drug Control (DNCD) of US$4.6 million in cash found in an SUV at her apartment house, supposed the result of money laundering.

Movement at AILA

Nevertheless, in the airport terminal and according to information that came to the newspaper yesterday, more than 6 employees of the second shift of Immigration that worked that night are being investigated with relation to the supposed departure of Sobeida Feliz Morel.

Moreover, the agents from the National Department of Investigations (DNI) and the Army Intelligence Service (J-2) are reviewing the closed circuit security tapes from the airport.

Yesterday there was a rumor that supposedly Sobeida Felix Morel had left the country dressed as a nun.

Agents of the Criminal Intelligence Service of the National Police began investigating the Immigration departure forms from the beginning of November that are sent to an office at the Central Bank after passing through the DNI at the airport. At the Central Bank they are registered for the statistics on passenger movement that the bank keeps up to date.
