Inter-American Court to hold session XXXVIII in DR
SANTO DOMINGO.-Beginning at 10 o'clock this morning, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights will begin their XXXVIII extraordinary session, here, in the Dominican Republic, during a ceremony that will be held at the Chancellery and that will include the participation of President Fernandez.
During its sessions, the court will hear several cases related to freedom of expression and disappearances that occurred in Peru, Honduras and Venezuela, but they will not deal with cases related to the Dominican Republic, according to information obtained by DL. In the press release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Relations, it says that "the regulations that govern this international organization do not permit it to hear cases that refer to the country hosting their session." This court has been covering for several years the case of the disappearance of university professor Narciso Gonzales (Narcisazo).
Once concluded the inaugural ceremony, which will be held in the Conference Room of the Chancellery, the court will proceed to sign conventions with national entities and they will sponsor the seminar "The National Reception of Jurisprudence from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and Present and Future Challenges to the Inter-American System of Protection of Human Rights."
