JCE declares Danilo and Margarita winners of the elections

With Resolution 30, the Central Electoral Board (JCE) officially declared yesterday the PLD candidates Danilo Medina and margarita Cedeño de Fernandez, President and Vice President of the Republic, respectively, after accepting as definitive and valid the final results of the last elections which gave the Dominican Liberation Party 51.21%.

The totals vary a little in the last bulletin issued by the JCE on 21 May, which conferred on the PLD and its allies 2.323,146 votes for 51.21% and gave the PRD and its allies 2,129,991 votes for 46.9%

Medina and Cedeño were declared winners, "because the Dominican Liberation Party and allies obtained the amount of 2.323.463 valid votes, a number superior to the absolute majority established in the Constitution of the Republic," according to the resolution read in a public hearing by the secretary of the JCE, Hilario Espiñeira.

The election agency, with Resolution 31, also declared the winners of the seven seats for overseas deputies. They were Jose Ernesto Morel and Ruben Luna (PRD) and Alfredo Rodriguez (PLD) in the First District which covers the United States and Canada.

For District 2, which covers Europe, Levis Suriel (PLD) and Adelis Olivares (PRD). In District 3, composed of the Caribbean, and South and Central America, Marcos Cross (PLD) and Agustin Mercedes (PRD).

In the Hearing, to which the PRD did not attend, the president of the JCE, Roberto Rosario, said that both resolutions will be sent to the president of the Senate for the proclamation of the new President and Vice President. According to the Constitution, this should happen next 16 August. The JCE has pending the date that it will deliver the certificates to the winners.

Definitive results

The Voter Registration Rolls had 6,502,968 voters registered. In the presidential vote, there were 4,566,838 votes of which 4,536,910 were validated (99.34%, and 29,928 were nullified (0.66%). There was 51.21% for the PLD, equal to 2.323.463 votes, while the PRD obtained 2,130, 189 (46.95%). The Alianza por la Democracia (APD), 5, 066 (0.11%); the Frente Amplio 6,553 votes (0.14%); Dominicanos por el Cambio (D x C) 9,343 votes (0.21%) and Alianza Pais (Alpais) 61,296 votes for 1.37%). The president of the JCE said that they did not received any challenges to the results, nor was there any evidence of tampering with voting acts.
