Judge orders 8 months preventive custody

SANTIAGO. The Tribunal for Permanent Attention of the Judicial District of Santiago issued an order last night for an 8 month sentence of preventive custody against the pilot Kennett Courdero Whymns and the co-pilot Marvin Dennis Cabral. The two were arrested on Tuesday together with five other persons when they tried to leave the country illegally in a Piper aircraft from the Cibao International Airport.
The persons charged, natives of the Bahamas, were sent to the Rafey Correctional and Rehabilitation Center together with the other person who tried to travel as passengers on the aircraft when it was seized.
The tribunal was headed by Judge Luis Noble Gil, who also issued a two month sentence of preventive custody for Glenys Aquino Rosado, Diogenes Arsenio, Aracena Perez and Manuel de Jesus Gomez.
The District Attorney for Santiago, Yenny Berenice Reynoso, said that in the investigations carried out so far by the DA's office, it has been possible to learn that the majority of the passengers had false visas and altered passports.
She said that they are investigating the connections that the pilot and co-pilot may have with wealthy Dominicans that could be tied to an international network of human trafficking through different airports.
The magistrate said that the preliminary investigations show that the crew of the aircraft had carried out 5 illegal flights to and from the Dominican Republic so far this year.
