Leonel defends his works and says the country has been changed
The President continues to deliver projects in the East
LA ROMANA. President Leonel Fernandez defended yesterday in La Romana the public works projects his administration has built, and said that they represent "irrefutable proof" that the Dominican Republic has been radically transformed over the last eight years.
He said that his administration has put into evidence the development of infrastructure projects which in his judgment represent the advancement and the progress of the Dominican nation.
As a support for his statements, Fernandez enumerated some of the projects: the construction of the highways between Santo Domingo and Samana; San Cristobal and Bani; Km 15 of Azua and San Juan de la Maguana; San Juan de la Maguana and Barahona; San Juan and Elias Piña; Corridor Duarte and others.
"In these eight years there has been a radical transformation in the entire area of the country, as a result of the efforts, the work and the determination of a government team only interested in raising up the Dominican Republic."
Democracy
In his words, Leonel Fernandez made it clear that the dream of Dominicans was to build a democracy, which at the same time would guarantee them the freedom and the full exercise of their fundamental rights, goals that he felt that his administration had accomplished.
The President also referred to the 13% tax burden. Regarding this he underlined the fact that this tax income is below the regional and world average.
Projects inaugurated
The nation's leader spoke as he inaugurated the Coral Freeway, which will connect La Romana with Punta Cana, a project in which the Ministry of Public Works invested US$400 million and which is 70 kilometers long.
Fernandez stressed that tourism contributed some US$4.0 billion to the country each year, and that this project will be a considerable help in the flow of tourists in the area.
From La Romana, Fernandez flew to El Seibo in order to inaugurate a housing project of 144 apartments that was built at a cost of RD$144 million by INVI.
