Medina will head commemorative activities for 30 March

SANTIAGO. In the presence of President Danilo Medina activities commemorating the 171st anniversary of the Battle of 30 March 1844 will be held today is Santiago.

The activities begin at eight in the morning, with the raising of the national and municipal flags in the Imbert Park on the avenue of the same name at the intersection of Las Carreras Avenue.

Later on, there will be floral offerings placed at the statues of the heroes of the movement and a brief conference by historian Edwin Espinal will be offered in the Imbert Park.

At 11 in the morning a Te Deum Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Ramon Benito de la Rosa y Carpio. There will be a private luncheon with the president and special invitees.

At 4 o'clock in the afternoon there will be a military and civilian parade along the Las Carreras Avenue in the presence of President Medina, his ministers, along with governmental and municipal authorities, some of the Catholic hierarchy and prominent members of the private sector.

After the parade is over, the president will go to the Instituto Materno Infantil in order to take part in the inauguration of the centers for primary care and advanced medicine at this private healthcare facilitaty.

This act will be held at the Instituto, located on Juan Pablo Duarte Avenue and will be held in commemoration of the 34th anniversary of its foundation.
