Minister of Health signed contract with sister
SANTO DOMINGO. The company Meta Seguros that is headed by Mrs. Mercedes Miguelina Rojas de Paulino, the sister of the Minister of Health, Bautista Rojas Gomez, in which the employees of the ministry are affiliated, was authorized by the head of the ministry as an insurance broker in August 2005.

This is confirmed in a memorandum signed by Rojas Gomez, which the Diario Libre has obtained a copy. In the memorandum, all the insurance companies and health fund administrators (ARS) related to the Ministry of Health are told of the designation of the company as advisors for the emission, renovation or change in policies.

Diario Libre also has in its possession the memorandum 06893 of 31 August 2004 in which the then Minister of Public Health, Sabino Baez, reports the designation of Correseguros, S.A. as the representative of the ministry's insurance contracts.

On 21 September 2005, after authorizing Meta Seguros, Rojas Gomez rescinded the agreement signed by Baez on 1 March 2001 with the Correseguro, S.A. company that is headed by Pedro Ventura Disla and Manuel de Jesus Martinez.

Last Monday, as a result of a report publicized by Nuria Piera in her television program on this issue, Rojas Gomez pointed out that the contract assigned to his sister and relating to the provision of a life and accident insurance policy for the employees of the ministry dates back to 2001.

He also said that the company switched from being an insurance brokerage and became an ARS with the inception of the Family Health Insurance (SFS) in 2007, and they took the name of Metasalud and kept up the administration of the life and accident insurances for the ministry's employees.

However, on the payrolls of the Public Health Ministry, the name of Meta Seguro is still present, the same as in the license renewal that was emitted by the Superintendent of Insurance on 23 December 2009 and marked with the number CS-412 and states that the representative is the sister of the minister. The renewal authorizes representation of an insured person or a person requesting insurance for the contracting of all types of insurance. Another bit of information that does not coincide is the company's address. Meta Segura appears to be located on Romulo Betancourt Ave. #1318, locale 303, suite 2, while Metasalud is located on Independence Ave. #125, at the corner of Benito Moncion, in Gazcue, where employees identified their president as Miguelina Rojas de Paulino.
