Najayo-Men will now be a new model penitentiary

SD. The jail at Najayo, with a population of 3,500 inmates, was transferred by the Attorney General of the Republic to the new penitentiary model, where the inmates receive food, clothing and are controlled under the order of new direction.
Inmates of the prison are being transferred to other penitentiaries in order to prepare Najayuo for the new model.
Ysmael Paniagua, the coordinator of the New Model for Prison Management, put Adolfo de Jesus Serrata in possession of the management of the new Najayo-Men facility.
He said that the transformation of Najayo is an unprecedented event, in benefit of those who are imprisoned in this penitentiary, who the system, not only guarantees their citizen's rights, but also gives them the opportunity to regenerate for their later insertion into the social and working life.
"Today (yesterday) we have taken control of the prison at Najayo, with the single objective of starting the transformation of it, until we convert it into a correctional and rehabilitation center, a process that we will carry out slowly and gradually, as we did at the moment, with what is today CCR-Rafey-Men, in Santiago."
Paniagua explained that in addition to the area that was known as "conjugal area" they began to prepare it to have 156 inmates in 6 man cells.
In the meantime, in the patio, the area will be occupied by offices and by the medical and technical personnel with which they will begin the transformation into a CCR.
The beginning of the transformation of Najayo, will continue in a slow and gradual manner, going through the same procedure that at its time the authorities carried out in Rafey-Men in Santiago de los Caballeros.
Already in the installations of Najayo the work to prepare the facilities can be seen. Paniagua indicated also that the work of coordination will be headed by Adolfo de Jesus Serrate, who works for the Model Penitentiary program.
The director general of Prisons, Tomas Holguin La Paz, said that the process will continue under the coordination of the New Model authorities who will have the support of the Prisons authorities.
"We are convinced that finally Najayo-Men will become a part of the New Model system, with all of the guarantees for the inmates, and that the process will go on without any problems or inconveniences."
