On this date Juan Pablo Duarte died at 63 in Venezuela

SANTO DOMINGO. This year was designated in honor of the Founding Father Juan Pablo Duarte on the occasion of the bicentennial of his birth.
Juan Pablo Duarte y Diez was born on 26 January 1813, and he died on 15 July 1876, at 63 years of age in Venezuela.
Since last year there has been a commission for organizing the activities relating to the celebration of the bicentennial. Since last January, the authorities, as well as private entities, have developed a series of activities to extol the work of Juan Pablo Duarte.
Duarte's merit, as a patriot and as a political organizer stems fundamentally, from the fact that he knew how to interpret the historical moment being lived by the Dominican society back then, refusing in it most decisive groups to accept the Haitian domination.
