Patients still fearful of influenza A(H1N1) virus
Public Health reports six new cases and with these the number reaches 66

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. Because the Luis Eduardo Aybar Hospital has the only reference laboratory capable of determining the presence of the A(H1N1) virus, it continues to be the center that receives the majority of people with respiratory symptoms.
Meanwhile the authorities have reported six new cases which bring the total to 66 persons infected with the virus.
According to an official bulletin, as of yesterday, 750 samples had been processed and none of the affected had to be hospitalized.
Of the new cases, five are from the National District and the other is from the province of Santo Domingo.
All the while, persons wrapped in towels or sheets, all sweaty, some of them, everyone with facemasks, giving the sensation that they were part of a great epidemic, stream into the hospital at all hours with the idea that they take samples to determine whether or not their condition is or is not related to the new strain of the flu virus
Valentin Martinez, who lives in Boca Chica, in East Santo Domingo, went to the Emergency Room of the hospital last Saturday with his 13 year old daughter who had had symptoms of the A(H1N1) virus for three days.
Previously, the minor was seen in a private health facility, where the mother was advised to take her to the public hospital so that a sample could be taken.
He said that his daughter began to feel the symptoms of the grippe last Thursday when she came home from school, located at Kilometer 10 of the Las Americas Highway, where he said other students are sick with the flu.
The parent said that first he took her to the SEMMA hospital, but he later decided to take her to the Luis Eduardo Aybar when her fevers did not break.
The minor is part of 700 patients that have been analyzed for the virus that continues to affect persons around the world.
Three days of fever over 38 degrees Celseus, cough and headaches and body aches are the backgrounds offered by dozens of patients in the waiting rooms of the hospital.
Besides Boca Chica, the persons complaining of being sick are from Villa Mella, Los Trinitarios and Villas Agricolas.
Meantime, the authorities feel it is positive that at the least symptom, the persons are going to the doctor as a preventive measure.
An insistence to remain calm
The Minister of Public Health reiterated yesterday that the population should remain calm and pay attention to the preventive measures recommended by the ministry.
Rojas Gomez reassured reporters that all of the epidemiological and preventive measures all over the country are being reinforced, together with an intense publicity campaign with the idea of making the population aware of the messages of orientation that are being disbursed in all of the media.
Moreover, the preventive measures in the ports, marinas, and airports are being reinforced, as are the measures in the schools, both public and private, and the hotels.
Meanwhile the population can continue to receive important and timely information electronically, either by phone at *462 or through the ministry's website: www.sespas.gov.do.
