PRD says they have not asked JCE for accreditation of 19 former military
SD. The differences between the president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party, Miguel Vargas Maldonado and the presidential candidate of that party, Hipolito Mejia, once again were placed in evidence before the Central Electoral Board ((JCE).

In a letter signed by Vargas and the secretary general of the party, Orlando Jorge Mera, the leadership of the party told the JCE that they did not know anything about the request made by the party's political and technical delegates, Salvador Ramos and Robert Arias, respectively, which would have accredited 19 former military officers to watch over the storage area of the Voter Registration Lists.

In the letter addressed to the president of the JCE, Roberto Rosario, Vargas Maldonado and Jorge Mera said that "we did not know anything about this request, and we found out about it through the media and by your letter. In the same manner, we are communicating to you that we respect the decision taken by the Central Electoral Board in this case."

Moreover, the party authorities made it plain that in reference to the next elections, in the PRD they are concentrating in fulfilling the activities and processes established in the electoral calendar, "channeling our worries and requests, following the due process of Law."

This is a letter in which they acknowledge the receipt of a previous letter sent by Rosario in which it is stressed that in order to avoid "a delicate situation for the personnel of security" of the JCE, they would remit the decision to the Plenary.

Last Tuesday the JCE rejected the PRD request, which Salvador Ramos said was discriminatory.

After Rosario received the letter from the PRD authorities, a commission from this party, headed by Jorge Mera, held a meeting with members of the Plenary.

As he left the JCE headquarters, Orlando Jorge said that the meeting was "very fruitful." He made it clear that it served to clear up some differences between the political and technical delegates with the members of the Plenary.

Diario Libre learned that on this issue they were referring to the fact that the technical delegate, Arias, said that the reporters took his statement out of context regarding the 35,000 cases of displaced voters in the Voter Registration Lists.

Educational ballot

During the afternoon, the JCE delivered to the party representatives the election ballots to be used for educating voters.

Each party received, symbolically, 1000 ballots, of a total of 3,000,000 that will be available.

Beginning tomorrow, they can withdraw a maximum of 50,000 educational ballots for the presidential election and a maximum of 8,000 ballots for the election of the overseas deputies.

The ballots were printed with the boxed for the National Veteran and Civilian Party (PNVC) and the Revolutionary Independent Party (PRI). It was explained that they were included in attention to fact that the decisions of the appeals filed by both parties in the Superior Electoral Tribunal were still pending.

In the case that they are not included as election options, their spaces will be blacked out, according to the election legislation.
