Protests in Haiti against Minustah for cholera
Port-au-Prince. Several thousand protesters took to the streets in Cape Haitian (in the North) in order to protest the presence of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah) which they blame for causing the cholera epidemic that has left 917 dead in the country, according to the latest figures.

Local correspondents reported that several persons suffered gunshot wounds in incidents when the Minustah and the Police intervened in order to attempt to control the situation.

The demonstrators, who called for the departure of the UN Mission, built up old tires into barricades and fired them, and threw stones at the Minustah vehicles.

Moreover, a substation belonging to the Haitian National Police (PNH) was burned, according to sources, who added that all commercial activities were halted as a result of the protests.
