PRSC agrees to re-unite
SANTO DOMINGO.-Although criteria and conditions were not defined, the leaders of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRDC) and those that left the party, above all those in the government, signed off yesterday on a manifesto that leaves open the process towards re-unification.

The document given to the press after the meeting in which those inside and those outside the party were all jumbled up said: "We proclaim to the nation our firm and unstoppable decision to begin today a process of unification and recovery of the Balarguerist family, based on the most authentic principles and values of reformism-Balaguerism(....) under the symbols, emblems and colors of the PRSC."

Amable Aristy Castro, the central figure at the press conference offered at the Sofitel Hotel in the Colonial Zone, said: "The moment for re-unification has arrived."

Federico Antun Batlle, the party president, told the press that the criteria for re-incorporation have still not been defined, and because of this he could not say whether the persons kicked out of the party and those that resigned to support president Leonel Fernandez will have to abandon their posts in the Fernandez Administration or not. He explained that they will begin to meet to reach a consensus regarding the statuary modifications that are needed to put into practice the agreement of intentions that was signed yesterday. He said, "This is the beginning of a new series of conversations that will clearly define the parameters."

The Chancellor, Carlos Morales Troncoso, the leader of the Reformist Presidential Council, one of the groups made up of dissidents, said that the moment has arrived "to forget the past and look forward."

The oath of unity, with the Our Father included, brought together Antun Batlle, Rafaela Alburquerque, the party vice-president, Jose Osvaldo Leger, the party's organizational secretary, and the party secretary general Victor Gomez Casanova, who turned away from the door at the press conference.

Amable Aristy Castro and Ito Bisono, both candidates for the party presidency and several legislators and members of the executive commission were also present.

From those that work for the government came Carlos Morales Troncoso, Johnny Jones, Humberto Salazar, Leonardo Matos Berrido, Modesto Guzman, Prim Pujols, Felix Vasquez and others.

Aristy Castro reported the excuses fro Jose Enrique Sued and Josecito Hazim who he said supported the re-unification movement.

Although Sergia Elena de Seliman, from the Dominicans for Change movement was present, her ticket mate, Eduardo Estrella was among the absent.

A petition before the Central Electoral Board (JCE) caused the suspension of the PRSC internal elections convened for 26 December and their postponement until next March.

Those on the outside saw the postponement as an opportunity to insure the return to the party with the opportunity to occupy leadership positions. Before the party elections there will be changes made in the statuettes, and the first meeting for this was set for 12 December.
