Public Health Oversight Commission created

SD. The Minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo, presented yesterday the members of the Citizen's Oversight Commission which will monitor all of the processes of purchases and contracts of the Ministry of Public Health.

The Oversight Commissioners can present the Ministry of Public Health with recommendations regarding the process with the aim that corresponding precautions be adopted immediately, insuring therefore the respect of the rights of the parties involved in the process, and the implementation of its judgments in a context of legality and transparency.

The Oversight Commission of the Ministry of Public Health is composed of Bernardo Vega, an economist and historian; Fernando Contreras, a gastroenterologist; Elena Villeya de Paliza, a businesswoman and president of EDUCA: Patricia Leon, an odontologist; Casimiro Velasco, an endocrinologist; Miguel Antonio Montalvo Batista, a gynecologist and the representative of the Catholic Church, and the Reverend Lorenzo Mota King, the executive directors of the Social Services of Dominican Churches, in representation of the evangelical churches.

"With the creation of the oversight commissions, the government is trying to guarantee the transparency of the buying and contracting processes so that the citizens can have confidence in the serious and responsible work that we in government are doing," said the Presidential minister, as he talked about the details of the oversight group.
