Questions for Palin..and McCain?.help me understand? !!!!!

Max is a handsome,  21 year-old, muscled, 6’ 2”, freshly minted, “ Semper Fi”, United States Marine. He is the son of my best friend,. And we are all proud of him, I’ve known him since he was a child, and call “nephew”. 

However….he is from New York City and not from a “small town”, like many other young hard working Dominican-Americans from New York.  

Max, like Palin’s son has just been deployed to Iraq, and perhaps they’ll be in the same foxhole. So here are my questions for the Republican Candidates Palin and McCain. For I am confused, and so may be my “nephew” Marine. 

Palin speaks of wanting to help the “Real Americans” who live in “small towns”. Some of their campaign workers speak of “vote for people who look like us” . I find this worrisome. 

So, help me understand the “Real American” (a) who is? (b) Where does he/she live (c) and look like?    

Now, famous Americans like: Bob Hope, Elizabeth Taylor, Andrew Carnegie, Cary Grant and Errol Flynn?  Were all born in another country? 

Like them, I am a Naturalized citizen 

I also did some research and learned that I have been an American citizen longer than Governor Palin. You see, I became an American citizen in Philadelphia on January 1963 and at the time – the Governor was just a “dream in her father’s eye” – she was born in January 1964….The year I registered as a 21 year old Republican.  

More seriously, I am confused.  

As a former official of the Board of Education of New York City charged with the educational care of thousands of grammar school children (surely more than the whole state of Alaska – many of those kids, looking more like me than the  Governor or the Senator) …please help speak to them and explain who is “The Real American” . 

Now, history tells me that African descendants have been in America for hundreds of years. Millions here look like Mr. Obama., Also Cristobal Aguilar was Mayor of Los Angeles in 1872, A Latino Mayor of an American city, and today we have the Honorable Villaraigosa. 

Some years ago, I lunched at the very old, venerable and exclusive “Cloud Club”, a private club in Phoenix Arizona. I was working for and managing the proposed Puerto Rican branch of the U-Haul System for Sam Schoen,. One of the wealthiest men in the United States.  U-Haul was headquartered in Phoenix Arizona. 

One thing disturbed me. At the Club, I was the only non-Anglo, person of color, (besides a few Mexican-Americans cleaning the floors).  

Senator, I’ll concede and forgive your not voting for the national “Martin Luther King Day” since Arizona was the conservative home of Barry Goldwater, and you would have lost your base, but, I am concerned that till today - your Senate office, reportedly has no Hispanics in its staff. 

That is disturbing. 

To the Senator and the Governor, please help me understand all of this……for I think we shall get an answer from the people on Election Day November 4^th
