Recognition for Bon Ice Cream at 40

SD. The Bon companies celebrated yester their 40th anniversary, exhibiting among their most important achievements their leadership in sales and production of ice cream in the market with 75% of the market, the creation of over 1,500 direct jobs, the export of their products around the Caribbean region, and a half a dozen successful ecological projects and projects that were beneficial for the ecosystem of the Dominican Republic.
The director of Public Relations of Helados Bon, Ana Angelica Moreno Portalatin, stressed that in nearly half a century, the company introduced an innovative style, based on its strength of being flexible, open and agile. It was the first company to create the first system of franchises in the country, way before the big multi-national franchises came in.
Moreno took part in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Helados Bon, held in the Carlos Piantini Room of the Eduardo Brito National Theater. During the activity the Alfonso Moreno Martinez Yearly Awards for Excellence were handed out. Moreno Martinez was the founder of the group, and the awards recognized the work of employees and outstanding franchises, and included a tribute to the departed artist Nurin Sanlley.
During the affair doña Ligia Portalatin de Moreno, a founder of Bon, Carlos Piedra Hita and Mario Alerto Niño (the president and vice-president of innovation of the Nutressa Group, one of the most powerful food conglomerates in Latin American) addressed the audience. Mario Alberto Niño is also the president of Meals Helados of Colombia and of Helados Bon in the Dominican Republic.
Moreno Portalatin added that Bon has promoted every year the creation of small companies in order to supply the need for raw materials of the brand, and is also one of the first companies to stimulate the concept of Total Quality.
The director of Public Relations for Bon stressed that another achievement was that the company had been a pioneer in developing business models with social and environmental solutions.
Helados Bon are accredited with the creation of products based on fruits, among them Passion Fruit, Macadamia Nuts, Organic Coffee, Organic Chocolate, Organic Chocolate with Macadamia Nuts,and Choco-Maple, none of which exist in any other part of the world.
Moreno Portalatincited among the post important projects the reforestation and the nursery for Macadamia, in Jarabacoa; the Macadamia nursery in La Loma; the transnational planting of Macadamia across the frontier (Haiti-DR); the reforestation with mango trees along the frontier with Haiti; the strawberry farm in La Cotorra in Constanza; the hybrid lime farm in the pilot farm in El Polo, Barahona, and others.
"Helados Bon has received dozens of awards and public recognitions during its 40 years, at both the national and international levels, and its exemplary lead was taken as a model for imitation in other countries."
Among these awards she cited the Millennium Project, the United Nations, National Geographic, the Inter American Development Bank, the FAO (the UN Food and Agricultural Organization) and the Prince of Wales.
