Remains of Colonel Fernandez Dominguez will be moved to the National Pantheon

SD. The Chamber of Deputies declared the legislation to be urgent and approved after two consecutive readings the proposal to exhume and transfer the remains of Colonel Rafael Tomas Fernandez Dominguez to the National Pantheon of the Fatherland.
The proposal by the deputy from Santiago, Victor Suarez Diaz was approved unanimously by the deputies present in the session. The legislation now goes to the Senate for a hearing and consideration. The widow of Fernandez Dominguez, Arlette Fernandez, was present at the session of the Chamber.
This initiative was motivated by the consideration that exhuming of the remains of this national hero and transfer to the Pantheon of the Fatherland would be a show of gratitude by the Dominican people for whom this man fought to the death defending the democracy and sovereignty of the Dominican Republic.
The legislation highlights the fact that Fernandez Dominguez initiated actions to restore the constitutional order after the coup d' ètat which overthrew Professor Juan Bosch in 1963, and defended with honor Dominican sovereignty against the foreign military forces during the war of April 1965.
Fernandez Dominguez died on 19 May 1965, during combat with the intervention forces near the National Palace.
