Repairs on the 17 Bridge begin this week
SANTO DOMINGO. Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo reported yesterday that this weekend they will start the repair work on the Francisco del Rosario Sanchez Bridge-known to most people as La 17-which connects the National District with the province of Santo Domingo.

Interviewed at the Presidential Palace after meeting with President Danilo Medina, the official explained that the first thing they will work on is the renewal of the asphalt and that for the execution of the metal structure they will hold a public tender.

Castillo reiterated that when the work begins on the steel structure that supports the bridge, several families that live underneath it will have to be relocated.

Meeting

He explained that in the meeting with the Chief of State, they conversed about the 140 projects that will be inaugurated before 16 August 2013, part of a total of 400 that the Ministry of Public Works is building.

The minister indicated that Danilo Medina expressed to him his interest in having the Santo Domingo Beltway finished as soon as possible.

He said that if it is necessary the Dominican government will buy the properties from the persons that are living on the ground where the road is supposed to pass through.

"In any case, we will find a solution. We are going to take into account the human aspects," added Castillo.
