Reporters from Diario Libre win Odebrecht Prize
Mariela Mejia won first place and Marisol Aquino, third
SANTO DOMINGO. The Norberto Odebrecht Dominican Republic Construction Company announced yesterday the winners of the National Dominican Republic Journalism Prizes "Challenges of the Present and the Future of the Dominican Republic."
The selection process which received 61 journalistic efforts, was judged by a jury composed of intellectuals such as Mu Kien Sang Ben, Andres L. Mateo, and Roberto Cassa, who stressed the quality of the efforts by the journalists.
The first prize was obtained by reporter Mariela Mejia for her work that was titled "Social Security: 11 years of challenges and advances," published in the Diario Libre on 9 July 2012.
The second place went to reporter Fausto Rosario for his work entitled "Companies are like human beings," published in the digital newspaper Acento.com.do on 22 August 2012.
The third place was awarded to journalist Marisol Aquino for her work entitled "Life when everything is missing," published in the digital edition of Diario Libre on 13 August 2012.
The winning journalists will receive their awards and an economic present during a ceremony next 12 September. The first prize will receive RD$1,200,000; the second will receive RD$800,000 and the third will receive RD$400,000.
